For those who have ridden a Rans F5, did you put chain tubes on some of your chains? I'm getting a lot of oil spray off the chains and that seems like a necessary modification.

Also, have people had a problem with the seat lock slipping and the seat sliding back under pressure? Is there a solution to that other than the little C clamps that Rans sells? Where have you ended up putting water bottles?

thanks in advance. Bob

You can use a large hose clamp around the main tube at the back of the seat to keep it from slipping. I used shrink wrap on the clamp to protect the paint. For water bottles on RANS bikes I just mount the cages on the mounts at the back of the seat. If the seat does not already have holes in the mesh for the cages, you can use the tip of a soldering iron to make the holes.

Oil spray? I can make a mess if I rub against it.

May I suggest you use less oil? Or at least, rub with a dry cloth vigorously after application.

My seat would slide back on my f5 until I used the Rans C clamp. I know you mentioned not wanting to use it, but it helps hold my seat in place.

The "locking tab" for lack of a better word, does work quite well. If you have the old style RadLoc, look at the tech instructions for adding a piece of inner tube to it - that works very effectively as well. Even on the new oval tube style, I've added a piece of tube to the sides of the clamp area, and have no movement of the clamp on my Xstream.
