Hi,

I'm considering changing my 700X to an Alterra 29. Nothing wrong with the 700X, but I want wider tires :D

I contacted RANS to inform about shipping costs to my country (Belgium - Europe) for a frame (no frame set, just the frame) and the only information received so far, is a whopping $ 755 by using DHL

That is way too much and much more than I can afford. I'll have to pay taxes on both the package and the shipping costs, which would make this a + $ 2.000 frame, way too expensive.

I asked RANS several times if there is no cheaper way to send a frame to Europe (by boat ? -I would not mind the waiting), but I'm sorry to say, RANS is not answering much.

Does anyone have any suggestion on a cheap(er) way of sending frames from the US to Euorpe ?

Tanx !

I paid similar to ship a rans frameset to Australia last year, so their quote isn't too over the top, but yes, it certainly hurts by the time customs etc are added on.

It turns out that that company is part of FEDEX, or at least the service for this company is provided by it. RANS does not do businnes with FEDEX, so I am on my own again

Haven't heard anything yet from SHIPBIKES.COM, so I sent them another e-mail yesterday. Hopefully they will answer ....

Maybe you should call Shipbikes. It says on their website for a quote on international shipping rates call 877-323-4083.

I've got an answer in the mean time and received an estimation from Oak Park to my place. Now I'm awaiting Rans' estimation for shipping the frame from Hayes to Oak Park and see how that'll add up ....

RANS charged me $70 to ship a V3 frame by UPS to Maryville, IL, which is a suburb of St. Louis, MO. So that may give you an idea for frame shipping charges to Oak Park. The CF frame should fit in a smaller box than the V3. If weight is a factor the V3 frame was very light since it is titanium, but it was in a large box.

Rans sent me an e-mail to let me know that sending the frame to Oak Parks would cost me $127, since they use UPS to do so. They also wrote me that if I was to order a frame set instead of a single frame, the shipment to Oak Parks would be free of charge.
I understand that their profit on a complete frame set is bigger than on a single frame, but from a customers point of view it makes no sense in ordering a frame set when you just need the frame ....

The fact that RANS is not communicating with Shipbikes.com is not helping much either :(

I'm still figuring out if it's still worth all the effort ....

Well, placed my order with Rans. Shipping will be done by Phoenix International, they will send the frame to Brussels, where I can pick it up.

I also ordered the 29" Cromo fork with the frame, since I wanna go wide with the tires 8-)

Now all I can do is wait ....
