Happily, I'm quite acquainted with this kind of bulletin board, so technically its use won't pose a problem!

However, this color scheme reduces the usability of this bb to practically zero! It is outright disagreeable to see these pages in this black/yellow color scheme which makes it unreadable!

I suggest to change the bb's color style into a very light neutral grey background and simply black letters.

I have no problem reading the board. To me the yellow and white font really stands out on the black background. I would much rather have bright vivid colors than dull grey and white colors.

Colors are a personal thing, and these colors really don't work for me.

Does the BB software allow people to customize their own colors after logging in? I searched the User Control Panel and couldn't find it. I'm pretty sure I've been able to customize my colors on other similar forums.

I know on the Catrike forum they have a large number of skins to choose from so anyone can customize to their liking. Have not found anything on this forum similar to that. Might be something that the forum administrator has to activate.

I'm thrilled that Rans has finally set up a discussion forum, but I will not be spending much time here if this color scheme continues to exist. I've always found that forums with a black background are hard on my eyes, especially after an extended period of time. Even worse than the yellow text on black background is the red text that shows up when you type out a post.

Please, please, please change it (or allow users to set their own colors as some other forums do)!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

For me, it's not just the black background that's jarring, it's the overall visual clutter of the color scheme, making the actual text hard to see/read.

Please switch to something more neutral, or let users choose their own color scheme.

For what it's worth, Firefox has a way to tame the colors:

Tools > Options > Content > Colors

Uncheck the box for "Allow pages to choose their own colors".

But this affects all web pages, so you'll need to check/uncheck the box as needed.

The result is a bit too plain, but at least it's readable.

If you use Google Chrome you can install the Change Colors extension and make the entire domain any color you wish. Currently I have it with a white background and black text. Firefox may have a similar extension.

Screen shot below of what it looks like in Chrome with color change.

I was a moderator on a medical practitioner forum that used phbbb. There are several mod codes that allow members to have a choice of background colors.http://www.phpbb.com/mods/

With Firefox you can use the add-on 'Color that site!' It's very easy to install this add-on (via the Firefox preferences, but its use is a bit of voodoo. I did however manage to color the background white and the text black, so that I can now read this bulletin board :-)

Add my vota against the colors of this new site. The colors make the board almost unuseable, and we shouldn't have to fiddle around with add-ons and work-arounds in order to make it useable. Life is too short. The colors on the old board were just fine.

I took me about 5 mins. to install the Chrome extension and change the colors. If you do not have 5 mins., life must really be short. Now if you only use IE, downloading and installing Chrome or Firefox will take a lot longer than 5 mins.

I now have a shade of grade just a bit lighter than the gray on the old CF site for the background. I find the gray not as bright as a white background.

Some things should not be taken literally. Saying that “life is too short” is just a shorthand way of saying that after 30 years of running my own computer business, fixing problems caused by poorly designed or defective software, I don’t feel like doing any more of it, even with something as simple as the add-ons to Firefox, etc. Since retiring I have more important things to do. Moreover, there may be some readers of this forum who are not computer-savvy enough to do even simple fixes.
Some computer problems are due to complexity, and may be excusable. A poor choice of display colors is not one of them.

Hello everyone!

Taking your guys comments into mind I added another theme for you. If you goto the user control panel>board preferences, you can change the theme from the black background to the white background. We can not offer a whole bunch of choices because it would take me too long to customize each skin with our logo's and ect... I have however now given everyone a choice between a light or dark back ground.

Best regards,

Brad

Thanks for the choices Brad! Always nice to have choices. The blue/silver/white/theme is nice. Kind of reminds me of the colors on the BROL board.
