The Heart of Texas Recumbent Rally and Rodeo 0 mins. ago (permalink)

Just wanted to alert y'all to a REALLY fun event approaching February 23-24 in Austin, Texas at Easy Street Recumbents. The Heart of Texas Recumbent Rally will be rolling that weekend, and this year marks the inaugural Recumbent Rodeo. We will have Barrel Racing, Pole Bending, and a Speed Race. Two divisions: Trike and Bike. Hey - this is Texas. Gotta have a rodeo!

Also, Terra Trike has jumped in on the HOT bandwagon and is trying to figure out how to get a test ride area set up at the HOT. We are glad to have them on board! Would love to have the other Big Names in recumbents join us!

Saturday morning we will have info session given by Mike Librik - the Big Enchilda of recumbent cycling. Saturday afternoon there will be three different rides to choose from: Scenic (about 10-15 miles at a leisurely pace), Semi Tough (a little bit more kick -- about 25 miles at a brisk pace), and the Warriors (ridiculous length -- 39 miles -- at a crazy pace. Do not sign up for the Warriors if you cannot maintain a 16 mph+ pace for 40 miles). These rides have no support (call us if you need us to come pick you up during the ride). For those of you that don't know anything about the HOT -- this is NOT an "organized ride." It is a 2 day recumbent culture event!

The rodeo will be Sunday morning. This is going to be a HOOT. Major fun. Check out the patterns for the events at the HOT web site. Apparently it is not clear that there are 21 feet between the poles in the pole bending. One man thought it was 21 feet TOTAL for all 6 poles. He told me it was physically impossible to weave through poles set 3 and a half feet apart! ha ha ha He tried. But after I told him there was 21 feet between. EACH pole, his practice sessions are going MUCH better!

Registration for the HOT is $30 until February 1. Then it skyrockets to $35
Register NOW.

Give a ways are a REALLY nice stainless steel insulated water bottle and a super neat and handy neck wallet. Lunch on Saturday is included in the registration price.

And prizes. Some really neat stuff will b given away through drawings during the HOT. Samplings: a Reverse Gear Phoenix jersey, a 2 hour tour of San Antonio via recumbent trikes (they supply trikes, helmets, radi o intercom system, and souvenir water bottle) for two from San Antonio Bike Tours (a $120 value), Schwalbe tires...... this just scratches the surface.

The official HOT Hotel is the Habitat Suites. This place is GREAT! It is NOT a
"hotel" room. They are suites with a separate bedroom and kitchen and sitting
area. Need more than one bed? Request a fold out couch. They are offering rooms for those attending the HOT for $75 a night. SUPER good deal. You MUST make the reservation BY PHONE (not over the internet) and tell them you want the "HOT13" special rate of $75 a night. They have a FANTASTIC breakfast and happy hour that are free for those staying there. VERY close to Easy Street -- riding distance if you want to ride the whole time. if you want to look the place over.

We will have super neat t-shirts for sale for the HOT. Your choice of a bike or
trike on them. BUT you MUST ORDER BY FEBRUARY 1. No guarantees if you do not order your shirt by then. They are on the web site for you to see. WOW really neat shirts.

QUESTIONS? Holler at me me. jane at easystreetrecumbents dot com.

check out the videos from last year's event on the web site. And once you
register, send me a photo of you (on your bike or trike if you have one!) to be
added to the "Who's Who at the HOT" section. Not mandatory, but sure is FUN!

See y'all there. It is going to be super fun!
